This hasbeen discussed before.
Simply put it would be unbalanced since some players would move faster then others. In games like WoW where travelling about requires fast transport then yes mounts are good.
However in a game like this where is CO-OP RPG (So its called) people need to stick together and work as a team, that isn't going to be possible if one person rides off into the distance.

You can travel the map instantly to any city you've been to anyway, there really isnt even a NEED for it.

Yea, FFXI has it too. But those are huge MMORPGs.
I don't think this game would require mounts. You could just consider it as just some sort of sport.

Id like mounts for combat reasons - I don't think they need to allow the player move any faster.

Doesn't have to make them move faster...
It would be like having an odd pet. Just something cool to show-off. That would be the main reason to add mounts...and why I think people want them.

A STATUS SYMBOL which would disappear as soon as you got to a group of people to admire it same as the rangers pet
i can see it now
*want to join my group and see my mount*?

not needed? your exactly freekin right! way to go champ... but did you forget about dye's? firey dragon swords? ect... they are totally useless, but everybody loves them. and i'm guessing that if they came out with ridable creatures, then you would be riding one. all of you would.
I'm in favor of adding new life to the game. it wouldnt hurt a thing.

i am all in favor of MORE expanded dye areas on clothes and the more special effect weapons, armor and things like that they come up with i will be leading the cheering
only please consider the difference in polygons and anmation and bandwidth on the wildesr flaming sword and the same costs on a decent mount
if they showed in public areas consider the additional floor space if you will each takes up
the overhead on those simply for show is too high
wonderful small showy stuff to show off is fine but this is many orders of magnatude beyond that
see
there was an actual reasno for it not just spite

Ethsetics are everything in Guild Wars.
So, let's hit the check list:
Will it unbalance the game? Not if you get zero advantage for having it.
Will it look cool? Yeah, it many situations it might.
How easy would it be to implement? No clue, ask Arena Net.
My Conclusion: Arena Net knows people want them, so if they decide that it is within their means (or vision) to add them, then cool. If not, that's fine with me too.

Look what Arena Net did with this game already. I honestly dont think anything is impossible. Your right, it's probably a little much for how small of importance it is to most, but it also could be made important too. i'm still in favor. I've never ridden a donkey. do it for me. lmao

Lineage 2, another game by NCSoft, features "Striders."
If I recall, they don't make you move any faster, or its quite unnoticable. Your Strider may attack while you are mounted or even dismounted.

I think this would be a great idea for restricted areas, like a certain location or continent that was strictly horseback, or whatever you can tame in that area.
It would be expecially interesting if ranger could tame rideable beasts and have thier pet/steed attack wile they are riding, wile classes like Necromancer may Summon an Undead Dragon which would be powerful but usurp any of thier normal skills, and common steeds and rides to buy for other classes. They could do many things with this, but they shouldn't make these available in current areas because they are not balanced to suit the power, escaping ability expecially, which would make completing objectives and escaping overly easy.
The biggest reason I think this would be attractive is because, the Developers have already stated that they do not intend to increase the maximum lvl, they want the power to be allocated through skills and equiptment, not how much health you have. So in expansions players may find the game a bit boring without new lvls to gain or serious progress to attain. And outside of using the new classes, which they have eluded too, players might find it boring to explore new areas when they are not actually accumilating power. Having a steed, even a full battle steed that you lvl up and armor, would give players something new to invest in and explore with, expecially if there were 3 or 4 different kinds of steed that count as different "steed classes", which would come equipted with a seperate skill set and skills to use as well as stats and whatnot.
This is a great idea for an expansion, part of keeping the game alive is adding something at least somewhat unique and interesting to explore/develop with each expansion. Here's hoping this game expands into the best Online RPG ever.
